City Unveils Draft Hogadon Master Plan

The City of Casper has made available for public review a draft Master Plan (MP) for Hogadon Ski Area. The Master Plan, intended to guide future management, recreational use and facility development at Hogadon, will be available for review online at beginning June 27. The City will host a public open house on Wednesday, July 10, to present the draft Master Plan and solicit additional public input for finalization of the MP.

The release of the Master Plan follows a 5-month planning process that included a comprehensive public involvement campaign, a detailed assessment of the condition and adequacy of existing facilities and ski terrain, the development of conceptual building plans, and recommendations for future marketing, on-site services and operational optimization. The master planning process was guided by a core Steering Committee comprised of key stakeholders, and by public feedback gathered through a variety of methods, including written comments, slope-side surveys, public workshops, and social media.

City Manager John Patterson said master planning for the ski area is long overdue. “Hogadon has simply not seen the same level of investment in infrastructure that other City facilities have enjoyed,” he said. “It’s been held together over the years by the dedication and ingenuity of passionate users, but they can only do so much without additional resources. This master plan provides a reasonable road map for turning Hogadon into a facility to be proud of.”

In addition to the draft Master Plan, the project website includes all public comments received throughout the project, as well as a discussion forum where visitors can post additional comments or supplement comments made by others.

The July 10 workshop will take place from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 200 N. David Street. Following a brief overview of the master planning process and the key findings of the draft Master Plan, open house attendees will have an opportunity to engage the project team in a question and answer session regarding the draft plan. Public comments will be accepted through July 16, and the project team will then incorporate this feedback into a final Master Plan to be presented to the Casper City Council for adoption on July 23.
